Friends of the Island Food Pantry |
|
UUSMV's Friends of the Island Food Pantry project has become the church's signature Social Action Program. Increasingly, UUSMV is recognized in the community as a major player in enabling the Food Pantry to provide assistance to needy families and individuals on the Island. Participation by members and friends of UUSMV has reached over a quarter of the congregation, and is growing. What we provide are volunteers who regularly station themselves at the entrances of local supermarkets where patrons are handed a "shopping list" of items especially needed by the Food Pantry and asked to consider picking up an item while shopping. The items collected are then delivered to the Food Pantry in Vineyard Haven where regular distribution to the needy takes place.
